The more I think about it, the less I want a border collie/lab mix.

I mean, I love the breed, but they have too much energy, and I don't exactly live on a farm. A dog of that breed wouldn't be too happy with the lifestyle.

So onto the second, third, and fourth choices.

Harrier

Vizsla

Pharaoh Hound

If I got a pharaoh hound I'd call her Ramses. haha

I had a friend who had a vizsla. It had a hell of a lot of energy- to the point where he used to have it run beside his car all the way to work, every morning, as he didn't have time to exercise it any other way.

Nice dog, but it also needed a very firm hand. It would only obey him (and not even him, most of the time- he let it get away with too much), and... well, I would only get one if I was prepared to spend a long time training it.

thanks for the input.

I'm actually excited to train a dog, but not house train. I'm not interested in a puppy at all, I want a teenager to fully grown dog, already house trained, but I wouldn't mind training her to do other things. It would be a nice experience, and I think training a dog yourself to obey commands improves the connection between the two.

I think you might like a feist, which is what my dog Pippi is. Energetic, trainable, very good in the house, good size, not extremely vocal. Hounds, including beagles, tend to vocalize alot.

the thing about the two hounds above is they are known to not bark very often, which sorta sets them apart.

I'm going to google feist right now too! (though i'm sure a lot of the websites will be about the singer....)

There's not alot online about feists. They're a regional dog, mostly southern appalachia, used for small game hunting. Terrier stock with a little beagle/hound, I'm guessing. We got Pippi at a pound up here, but she was brought up from down south. She's the first dog I've ever had that made me want another (almost) just like her.

If you wanted one, the first thing I'd do is check animal shelters in the southern states (via the internet), and then take a road trip!

More online every time I check! Google "mountain feist" or "treeing feist"

Here's a wikipedia link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mountain_Feist

Check the WMUR/New Hampshire Chronicle page next week; they're doing a feature on people in NH rescuing street dogs from Puerto Rico.

We had issues that we didn't really outright express back then, but we're all much more mature people now. I'm glad to have heard from you!
